Wishh team exits Kentucky fried chicken outlet that is struggling to meet demand with locally produced chicken. Ghana imports more than 250,000 metric tons of frozen chicken per year.

The American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) program Executive Director and ASA/WISHH Africa Staff Erica Morrow and Josh Neiderman are in Accra this week for a conference on trade development, funded by USDA’s Global-Broad Based Initiative (GBI) funding. Dana Johnson, USSEC and WISHH contractor, presented preliminary findings from the USDA-funded poultry and feed market study in West Africa.

Five other cooperators are attending the conference to promote trade with the U.S. in their respective products: American Peanut Council, USA Rice Federation, USA Dry Beans Council, USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council and USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC). USDA is making a concerted effort to build trade with Africa. Over 100 participants from five African nations participated in the one day conference on food and feedstuffs. The ASA/WISHH team met with USAPEEC African market representatives about programs that will help preserve the multi-million dollar U.S. poultry market in Ghana.
