Marcus Hamilton, technical consultant for the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program (ASA/WISHH), travelled to Pakistan in mid-May to work with five meat processing companies on how to incorporate soy proteins into beef and poultry products.  This was Hamilton’s second trip to Pakistan and allowed companies to receive advanced techniques and concepts.

Hamilton also presented at six workshops/seminars across four universities on using soy proteins.  Over 200 students, researchers and industry representatives attended these events.

At the end of the trip, Hamilton met with Clay Hamilton, the FAS Agricultural Counselor about his trip and ideas for future activities.

Pakistani companies are beginning to realize the many uses and functional benefits of using soy proteins in meat products, in addition to pizza toppings.

Funding for this trip and its activities was provided through the USDA Emerging Markets Program (EMP).
