The National Biodiesel Board (NBB) Governing Board, including ASA representative Mike Cunningham (IL), ASA past President Ron Heck (IA) and other soybean farmers, met in Washington, D.C this week. In addition to board business, the soybean and biodiesel industry leaders took time to visit with key congressional offices to discuss the biodiesel tax credit and the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). The feedback received indicated a lot of uncertainty on the prospects for legislative action in 2017 on tax reform and the biodiesel tax credit.
Many agreed that the outlook will remain uncertain unless and until the Senate concludes the process of confirming nominees for the Trump cabinet and the Supreme Court, and gets through the efforts to repeal and potentially replace the Affordable Care Act. Currently, the House leadership has indicated their intent to focus on tax reform from late spring through the summer, while the Senate is more likely to focus on tax issues later in the year.
