CAST-Cambodia Restarts Technical Assistance with COVID Precautionary Measures

May 21, 2020

From Left: CAST Technical Advisor Len Rogers follows social distancing and hygiene practices as he shares recommendations on feeding practices and discusses current market conditions with fish farm owner Sok Raden and CAST Technical Specialist David Samveana at Raden’s farm.

ASA’s Commercialization of Aquaculture for Sustainable Trade (CAST)-Cambodia is following the Royal Government of Cambodia’s guidelines and council to execute activities while managing the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent reports show no current cases of COVID in Cambodia, but the government and CAST remain vigilant.

While maintaining strict hygiene practices and social distancing, CAST is conducting direct farmer training and consultations. Some of CAST’s technical and association development team visited Sok Raden’s farm in Kampong Thom Province to share lessons and consult on harvesting techniques, pond preparations and farm planning. While there, the team devised a crop plan for one of Raden’s ponds to launch a demonstration of good aquaculture practices.

Raden is chair of the new Cambodian Aquaculture Association. He owns five ponds that cover several acres, which makes his a relatively large aquaculture enterprise and an excellent CAST partner.
