The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) EPA will allow an additional 30 days for comments on their Proposal to Mitigate Exposure to Bees from Acutely Toxic Pesticide Products. EPA is proposing additional mandatory pesticide label restrictions to protect managed bees under contract pollination services from foliar applications of pesticides that are acutely toxic to bees on a contact exposure basis.
The American Soybean Association (ASA) signed a request for an extension last week.
“It is critical that the EPA hears from the agriculture community to better understand the true consequences of this proposed action. If implemented ‘as is’ it will set precedents with far-reaching consequences which could severely limit crop production and ag industry’s ability to manage pests and bee health,” the request stated.
The comment deadline is extended through Aug. 28.
