Highway Bill Conference Committee Underway

Nov 19, 2015

House and Senate conferees have begun meeting to work out differences between the two versions of the Surface Transportation reauthorization bill (Highway Bill) passed by the respective chambers.  The conferees hope to reach agreement and conclude their work by the end of November, so that the final conference report can be passed by the House and Senate prior to adjournment in December.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) continues to weigh-in on issues of interest to soybean farmers and the agriculture industry. This week, ASA signed onto a letter with 126 organizations representing manufacturers, farmers and agribusinesses, retailers and other supply chain stakeholders in support of the “Port Performance Act” as included in the Senate passed version of the Highway Bill. This provision is intended to help to gain empirical visibility into the operating efficiency of U.S. ports, and help to identify key congestion issues that affect the flow of our nation’s commerce. The letter, which can be viewed here, urges the conferees to include the port performance provisions in the final Conference Report.
