House Begins Work on FY 2018 Appropriations Bills

The House Appropriations Committee has advanced the fiscal year 2019 Agriculture-Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Appropriations bill.

The House Agriculture Appropriations bill provides discretionary funding of $23.27 billion, a $14 million increase from fiscal year 2018.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) is pleased that the House bill included full funding for working lands conservation programs, the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) and Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

The bill provides a small increase for ag research programs, increasing overall funding to $3.1 billion. For the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI), the House provided a welcome increase to $415 million, up from $400 million in FY2018.

The House bill placed no limitations on funding for Market Access Program (MAP) and Foreign Market Development Program (FMD).Therefore, both programs will continue to receive $200 million and $34.5 million respectively for FY2019.
