Daryl Cates, of the Illinois Soybean Association Board of Directors, samples soy foods made with U.S. soy flour in Guatemala.
Soy growers got a chance last week to see first-hand how ASA/WISHH’s market development activities promote the usage of U.S. soy in the country and the region.
Members of the Illinois Soybean Association, including participants in the Soy Ambassador Program, visited Guatemala with the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program (ASA/WISHH). The group visited two of the largest commercial food processing plants in Central America.
Together, the two companies import over 7,000 MT of U.S. soy flour per year. The two companies have more than 10 soy-based products in their product lines, many of which were developed following ASA/WISHH technical assistance. Participants on the trip heard how U.S. soy is integral to the production of these companies’ current products as well as ongoing new product development.
