Lighthizer Tapped for USTR

Jan 05, 2017

President-elect Donald Trump named former Ambassador Robert Lighthizer as his nominee for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) earlier this week. Lighthizer served as deputy U.S. trade representative during the administration of President Ronald Reagan, and oversaw USTR's work on agriculture.

Additionally, Lighthizer served as vice chairman of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), which promoted economic growth in developing countries through U.S. investment.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) will continue to monitor and evaluate how Lighthizer's and other nominations in the Trump Administration will impact soybean farmers.
