Food manufacturers in Myanmar are looking for new technologies as the market grows and personal incomes rise. Representatives from Capitol Diamond and the Food Science Technology Association of Myanmar (FOSTA) spent the past eight days in the U.S. where they saw a vast array of products, trends, technologies and processes to make snack foods.

The team spent two days at the Natural Products Expo West show in Anaheim, Calif. American Soybean Association World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) Asian Division Director Alan F. Poock escorted the team at the expo, which is the largest natural and health foods trade show, exposing the team to new soy products and trends. While at the show, the team visited the booths of SK Foods and SunOpta.

This week, the team is attending a snack food extrusion short-course at Texas A&M.

Funding for these activities was provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Emerging Market Program and the North Dakota Soybean Council.
