Agricultural research stakeholders met in a session convened by the Supporters of Agricultural Research (SoAR) to refine proposals for the Research Title of the farm bill. The American Soybean Association (ASA) is a founding member of SoAR. The broad group of stakeholders included representatives from production agriculture, as well many science societies, universities and nutrition groups.
The group is coalescing around a common funding request for all U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) agriculture research programs, as well as discussing research governance issues at USDA and infrastructure needs for research facilities. With Congressional Agriculture Committees intent upon considering farm bill legislation as early as this fall, the research group is trying to finalize its proposals to transmit to Congress.
