During consideration and mark-up of a bill to lift the ban on crude oil exports, the Senate Banking Committee last week defeated an amendment that would have eliminated the conventional biofuels portion of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), which is predominantly filled by corn ethanol. The amendment, offered by Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA,) was defeated by a vote of 7-15. The vote provides a favorable indication of the continued support for the RFS in the U.S. Senate.
