Soy Growers Attend Farm Bureau Annual Convention

Jan 11, 2018

American Soybean Association (ASA) Vice President Davie Stephens and his wife Judy were invited guests at President Donald Trump’s address to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF ) annual meeting at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center on this week.

In his speech, the president laid out details of the report released by the Interagency Task Force on Agriculture and Rural Prosperity, chaired by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, including plans to expand broadband and e-connectivity in rural areas.

The remarks were very well received by the farmers and ranchers in attendance, who Trump complimented as the “basis of society and true friends of liberty.”  ASA staff also attended a panel discussion for various farm and commodity organizations on the outlook for the 2018 Farm Bill, led by AFBF President Zippy Duvall and Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran.

ASA underscored the importance of keeping farm bill constituencies, including conservation and anti-hunger groups as well as farm organizations, united in order to complete the legislation before the Agricultural Act of 2014 expires at the end of September. The last farm bill completed on schedule, rather than being extended for a year or longer, was passed in 1990.
