The House Agriculture Committee hosted a farm bill listening session on day two of Farm Progress this year, where members of the ag community were invited to provide testimony relating to the upcoming farm bill.
Speaking to the committee, American Soybean Association (ASA) President and Illinois farmer Ron Moore called for a strong farm bill from top to bottom.
“If the goal is a good and workable farm bill, we can't come to the table focused on cuts to any part,” Moore said. “Rather, we have to be willing to spend what it takes to get these programs right."
Supporting the need for a strong farm bill, Moore pointed to the declining farm economy, the need for expanded foreign markets and well-funded conservation and research programs.
ASA was also represented at the listening session by Illinois Director Jered Hooker, who echoed Moore's call for a strong, well-funded farm bill.
