The American Soybean Association (ASA) and 24 other agricultural organizations sent a letter to President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), supporting the re-nomination of Ann Begeman for another term on the Surface Transportation Board (STB).
STB oversees railroad regulatory issues. Begeman was sworn in as a member of the STB in May 2011, bringing with her two decades of extensive experience in transportation policy. During her tenure at the STB, Begeman served as the board’s vice chairman and brings first-hand knowledge about the importance of rail and overall transportation policy to our nation’s farmers, ranchers and agribusinesses.
Begeman grew up on a soybean farm in South Dakota and has pushed to address some long-standing shipper concerns during her time on the STB.
The letters ASA and other organizations sent this week, urge Obama to re-nominate Begeman and Majority Leader McConnell to schedule Senate consideration of her nomination before the end of the year. There are two other STB slots that will also need to be filled by the next Administration.
