The American Soybean Association (ASA) and other agriculture groups sent a letter to Senate Agriculture Chairman Pat Roberts this week in support of the Farm Credit System.
The groups thanked Roberts for scheduling the upcoming hearing on credit in rural America and reiterated important role the Farm Credit System plays in meeting the needs of growers across the country.
“As you know, prices of agricultural commodities have increasingly come under pressure. Concerns are growing that we may be entering a prolonged period of instability in the agricultural economy,” the letter states. “Credit availability in good times is singularly important to our respective members. Credit availability in tough times may well mean the difference between producers staying on the land or being forced to abandon their operations.”
The groups also state that the Farm Credit System and commercial banks work together to ensure agricultural producers and their industry partners have access to financial tools that are vital to their success.
