American Soybean Association (ASA) President Richard Wilkins wrote to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials this week, urging the agency to finish its registration of new low volatility dicamba formulations.
“As you know, the weed resistance issues farmers face this summer are grave. As we wrote in our May 25, 2016, comments, demand to use dicamba in combination with dicamba-tolerant soybeans is urgent. Herbicide-resistant weeds further threaten farm profitability at a time when global commodity prices have collapsed,” Wilkins wrote. “Soybean farmers fully understand the need for multiple modes of action and are eager to adopt new technologies across our farming operations. Yet until EPA’s final registration of these new formulations, farmers cannot realize the full weed resistance management benefits of the dicamba-tolerant cropping system.”
