State Affiliates Urged to Sign Rural Infrastructure Letter to President Trump

Feb 02, 2017

State soybean associations are encouraged to sign onto a letter initiated by the Farm Credit Council, urging President Donald Trump to support rural infrastructure needs in any major infrastructure initiatives. The American Soybean Association (ASA), Soy Transportation Coalition and other national agricultural groups support this letter.

The U.S. rural infrastructure is deteriorating, jeopardizing jobs, the country’s agricultural competitiveness and the health of rural families. Past infrastructure initiatives have often focused on urban and suburban infrastructure while not adequately addressing the unique needs of rural communities, which include: highways; bridges; railways; locks & dams; harbors; port facilities; clean water for rural families; expanding broadband to connect rural communities and enhancing the ability to supply affordable, reliable and secure power for the rural economy.

ASA encourages soy growers to sign on and collectively deliver a strong message to the President –– and the new Congress –– regarding the importance of focus devoted to rural infrastructure.  If you have questions or would like to add your organization to the letter, please contact Jessica Wharton by email at jwharton@soy.org by Friday, Feb. 10, close of business.
