The American Soybean Association/World Imitative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) hosted a capacity building conference in Accra, Ghana this week, providing opportunities for open dialogue between African business owners and U.S. public and private sector representatives.

The conference titled “Trade, Food Technology and Nutrition: USA and Africa Dialogue” was funded by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA)  Global Based Initiative program.

ASA Vice President Joe Steinkamp and CEO Steve Censky participated in the conference with more than 100 people from eight countries.

While there, the team met with USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) officials from three Sub-Saharan offices and a number of WISHH’s supply chain partners who import U.S. soy protein, as well as a representative from DuPont Nutrition and Health, selling isolated soy protein in West Africa.

Conference participants were able to meet with food technology and nutrition consultants and several commodity cooperator groups including USA Dry Pea and Lentil Council, American Peanut Council, United States Dry Bean Council and the United States Potato Board.
