In testimony before a House subcommittee this week, Executive Director of the Soy Transportation Coalition (STC) Mike Steenhoek emphasized the greater importance of transportation to farmers as agriculture has evolved.
Steenhoek, testifying before the House Transportation & Infrastructure subcommittee, cited the need to invest in transportation infrastructure in a consistent and reliable manner, support for increasing truck weights to improve capacity and efficiency and the need for a more efficient process for bridge inspections and ratings. His full testimony can be viewed here.
The STC is comprised of 13 state soybean boards, the American Soybean Association (ASA), and the United Soybean Board (USB).
The hearing titled, “Meeting the Transportation Needs of Rural America,” was held in connection with the congressional efforts to reauthorize a new long-term surface transportation bill, commonly referred to as the Highway Bill. The Highway Bill authority and funding was temporarily extended until July 31 as Congress seeks agreement on a long-term bill.
