A member of the soybean family was honored by the White House earlier this week.

ASA member Quint Pottinger, owner of Affinity Farms, New Haven, Ky. was recognized as a “Champion of Change” for agriculture, a program created for the White House to feature individuals, businesses and organizations doing extraordinary things to improve their communities, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Pottinger, a mixed row-crop and herb farmer in Kentucky, is an Ex-Officio Board Member at the Kentucky Soybean Association in a leadership education capacity and a current ASA DuPont Young Leader. He is also involved in the Kentucky Farm Bureau Young Farmers, Kentucky Corn Growers and recently began a year of service with the Corn Farmers Coalition. Pottinger attended the University of Kentucky, majoring in agriculture economics. 

“ASA congratulates Quint on this impressive honor and we look forward to watching him continue down the path of a strong, innovative leader not only for soybeans, but agriculture as a whole,” said ASA President Ray Gaesser. “It’s champions like Quint who will lead the industry and encourage others to join us on this quest to feed the world in the future.”

USDA recognized Pottinger, along with 14 others during a ceremony at the White House on Tuesday, July 29.

“These champions are leading in their industries and communities, inspiring others who want to find careers and a life on the land, and providing food, fiber, fuel and flora around the world,” the news release states.
