Two House Amendments on Cuba Need Soy Grower Support

Jun 28, 2016

The American Soybean Association (ASA) thanks those who made calls last week to their Senate offices in favor of amendments easing the restrictions on availability of credit to Cuban purchasers. Your work went a long way toward reaching our goal of greater access to the Cuban marketplace for American soybean producers.

This week, the process moves from the Senate to the House, and similarly, there are two amendments that will come before the House on Cuba. We ask that you contact your House offices and urge them to vote in favor of both amendments.

First, an amendment from Rep. Rick Crawford, of Arkansas, will lift restrictions to exporting ag goods to Cuba. The second amendment, introduced by Rep. Mark Sanford, of South Carolina, will lift restrictions on travel to Cuba. Both of these amendments will have a long term benefit of helping to normalize relations with Cuba and thereby allow a greater flow of U.S. agricultural goods into Cuba from the U.S.

Please contact your congressional offices and urge support for both the Crawford and Sanford amendments. Visit the Soy Action Center for more information and to find contact numbers for each House office in your state.
