The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation published a case study on the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) in its new report on private-sector solutions for global development challenges. The feature, U.S. Soybean Industry Boosts Global Food Security with Food, Feed, and Fuel Innovation, describes WISHH’s results pioneering a new food containing U.S. soy flour, while developing local aquaculture in the West African country of Liberia.
The article shares U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) research that developing countries will account for 81 percent of the projected increased global consumption of meats and 83 percent of soybean consumption. WISHH’s case study explains the positive relationship between WISHH’s work that grows markets for U.S. soy protein and the complementary availability of soybean oil for biodiesel, which is used by U.S. Chamber members like Caterpillar. The chamber’s publication also highlights the international food security programs of diverse companies ranging from General Mills and Cargill to DOW Chemical. The U.S. Agency for International Development also contributed an article to the report.
