The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) posted a Request for Applications (RFA) in the Federal Register, asking for commodity boards to submit topics and provide matching funding under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Competitive Grants Program. Commodity boards are asked to submit research topics by July 30, 2018.
If, after NIFA's evaluation, proposed topics are accepted for inclusion, they will be incorporated into AFRI competitive grants program RFAs. As a condition of funding grants pertaining to a topic, NIFA will require an agreement with the commodity board to provide funds equal to the amount NIFA is contributing under the agreed upon topic.
The Federal Register notice can be found here.
The AFRI priority areas are wide-ranging and include everything from plant health and production, to aquaculture to the effectiveness of conservation practices and technologies designed to address nutrient losses and improve water quality.
