WISHH Africa Participates in Feed Manufacturing Course

Jun 29, 2017

LaVelle and Andy Winsor (center) talk to trade team members Obinna Eze (Nigeria) and Kennedy Ogango (Kenya) about the technologies they use to manage their soybean farm.

The World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) Africa Division organized a trade team to participate in a feed manufacturing short course at the International Grains Program Institute at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. on June 27 – 30.

Eric Maichel (center) of KSU leads an extrusion practicum during the feed manufacturing short course.

The three person trade team consists of animal feed manufacturers from Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana. The team arrived in Manhattan early to meet with Kansas soybean farmers Andy and LaVell Winsor, whose farm is located in Grantville, Kan., and to visit the Kansas Soybean Commission in Topeka. The course curriculum consists of a wide range of topics including quality control, pelleting, feed mill management and ruminant nutrition.

WISHH will continue with follow-up projects involving each of the three trade team companies. WISHH will use U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) funding to implement additional programs through the Quality Samples Program, Emerging Markets Program, Food for Progress and Qualified State Soybean Board (QSSB). This activity was funded by the Kansas Soybean Commission.
