The American Soybean Association's World Initiative for Soy in Human Health Program (ASA/WISHH) Executive Director Jim Hershey was in Des Moines, Iowa this week attending the Borlaug Dialogues and other meetings held in conjunction with the annual World Food Prize.
A recurrent theme in the conference and networking discussions is the need for more protein in diets, the growing animal industries and the ability of agricultural systems to meet those needs with trade and economic development.
“We see a lot of growth in the processing industry, especially in Africa,” said extruder manufacturer Insta Pro’s CEO Kevin Kacere.
With the current and long term picture of protein deficiencies in Sub-Saharan African markets, that should increase opportunities for U.S. soy exports. Iowa Soybean Association’s The Soyfoods Council, led by Linda Funk, Executive Director, organizes the menu for the conference luncheon, attended by 1,000 participants and sponsored by Iowa Soybean Association, The Soyfoods Council, the United Soybean Board and WISHH.
