WISHH Hosts Trade Team in Iowa

Aug 17, 2017

Tim Bardole, ASA/WISHH committee member from Iowa, shares  information about soybean plants during a trade team visit.

Over the past week, the World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) brought a trade team comprised of members from Myanmar, Cambodia, Guatemala and Senegal, to Iowa and the Global Trade Exchange in Omaha, Neb.

Before the team’s arrival in Iowa, the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee hosted the participants from Guatemala and Senegal. The team visited Citizens Elevator to learn about the high-quality soybeans being processed and shipped out of Michigan and around the world.

Once the complete team arrived in Iowa, they visited Insta-Pro to learn more about using extrusion in human food and animal feed applications. The team then visited WISHH Committee member Tim Bardole’s farm to see the current soybean crop and how U.S. soybean growers produce sustainable soybeans.

Before heading to Omaha for the Global Trade Exchange, the team visited CHS’s soyflour plant in Creston, Iowa.

At the Global Trade Exchange, the team met with numerous U.S. exporters, along with hearing presentations on the market outlook, transportation, and soybean research.

Special thanks to the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee, the Iowa Soybean Association and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Market Development program for help pay the team members’ travel expenses.
