ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) Program Executive Director Jim Hershey was in Manhattan, Kan. on Monday to meet with Dirk Maier, director of the International Grains Program (IGP) and staff at Kansas State University (KSU). WISHH and IGP/KSU have collaborated on several projects in recent years, including the FEEDing Pakistan Aquaculture Project.
Hershey also met with Kenlon Johannes, CEO of the Kansas Soybean Commission (KSC) in Topeka. KSC funds help WISHH obtain resources from third-party sources to conduct joint activities with KSU. Discussions centered on continuing partnerships and new project concepts.
On Tuesday, Hershey had meetings with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Kansas City Commodity Operations office to discuss food aid purchases of value-added soy protein. Hershey finished the trip with a meeting with Seaboard Corp, a global agribusiness firm known in the U.S. for its major pork and poultry production holdings. Internationally, Seaboard is heavily invested in Africa, including flour and feed milling in West Africa.
