WISHH Trainings Help Strategic Partner Adapt in a COVID-19 World

Nov 05, 2020

This year is unlike any other for WISHH and strategic partners like SESACO. Yet, the Ugandan customer of U.S. soy flour and other high-protein soy products is applying prior year’s trainings as well as WISHH’s 2020 virtual support to adapt and even maintain production levels.

WISHH and SESACO Foods’ strategic partnership began in 2011. SESACO’s CEO Charles Nsubuga founded the company with a commitment to offering more nutritious and affordable foods in Uganda and the East African region. Through his collaboration with WISHH to include soy protein, SESACO has introduced a variety of new soy-based foods, ranging from beverages to snacks to meat extenders.  To reach more customers during COVID-19, he expanded marketing efforts to deliver products on scooters in Uganda’s capital city of Kampala.

SESACO participated in WISHH’s 2019 lean management training and continues to benefit from the workshop held at their company. The training provided new insights into improved management and communications, such as weekly meetings that included the sales manager and the production staff to jointly set clear and timely production goals.

WISHH used USDA Agricultural Trade Promotion Program funding for this 2019 training that also led SESACO to revise its packaging method to better protect product quality and help avoid customer returns due to poor seals etc. With SESACO’s COVID-19 strategy counting on scooters to deliver food products, tight packaging is more important than ever!
