Jim Hershey, Executive Director of ASA’s WISHH Program and Dana Johnson, Senior Strategy and Program Advisor, USSEC, were in Ghana this week for preliminary discussions with stakeholders in the Ghanaian feed and poultry industry. WISHH/ASA has obtained funding from USDA’s Emerging Markets Program (EMP) to analyze challenges and opportunities in the development of the feed and poultry markets in Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal. In addition to USDA, U.S. stakeholders in the study include USA Poultry and Egg Council (USAPEEC), U.S. Grains Council and interested agribusinesses. Johnson and Hershey met with soybean processors, Ghanaian Ministry of Food and Agriculture officials and U.S. government officials, including Kurt Seifarth, FAS Agricultural Counselor, who is opening a new USDA West African office in Ghana’s capital city of Accra.
