International media and others continue to recognize the results of the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) FEEDing Pakistan program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
A July 21 article in Dawn, a major newspaper in Pakistan, cited how the project stands out in contrast to Pakistan’s general decline in inland fish production. The article referenced the project’s use of soy-based feed that has boosted tilapia production to 5,000 fishes per acre of fish farm.
Earlier this year, USDA approved Phase Two of FEEDing Pakistan to further develop Pakistan’s aquaculture sector and its use of soy-based feeds. The additional one-year of funding allows WISHH to create even more demand for soy-based feeds, building upon the success of local fish farmers as well as private investment by the Pakistani feed industry since the original project began in 2011. WISHH’s strategy complements the U.S. Soybean Export Council’s (USSEC) work as Pakistan’s poultry industry now buys U.S. soybean meal and processing industry leaders import U.S. soybeans.
