The World Soy Foundation (WSF) is excited to announce David Iverson as Farmer Leader Feature of the week. When he’s not busy helping to lead the soybean industry, you can find him on his fourth generation family farm near Toronto, S.D.,  where he’s been raising corn and soybeans since 1980.

Iverson started his experience with the soybean families back in 1997 when he and his wife were chosen as DuPont Young Leaders. For more than 30 years, the American Soybean Association’s (ASA) DuPont Young Leader program has identified and developed grower leaders that truly shape the future of agriculture—and what a leader Iverson became! From 1998-2004, he served on the South Dakota Soybean Association Board and was President of the Board from 2001-2003. Iverson then went on to serve as the Chairman of the South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council for four years, 2009-2013. In 2012, Iverson was appointed to the United Soybean Board, where he still serves today.

In 2008, he joined the ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH) program Committee in 2008 and was a part of the very beginning of the WSF. Currently, Iverson is the Chairman of the ASA/WISHH program and a Board Member for the WSF. When asked why he decided to serve and become involved with the WSF, he says:

“I wanted to be involved with a humanitarian outreach with soy. It’s been very rewarding being a part of an organization that uses a commodity that I grow to help feed the under-privileged of the world and to see soy being used in such a positive way.”

Iverson continues to be a leader of the industry and an outstanding leader and supporter of the WSF and our mission of reducing malnutrition through the power of soy. To join Iverson today, consider giving to the Acre Challenge campaign by simply calculating the value of an acre of soybeans in your operation (yield multiplied by price) and give the gift of protein today! By accepting the Challenge, you’re ensuring the food you grow will make a difference to children who need it most around the world.
