World Soy Foundation Farmer Leader Feature: Jack Trumbo, Kentucky

Feb 06, 2014

Passionate, kind-hearted, invested—those are just a few words that come to mind when we think of farmer leader Jack Trumbo of Kentucky. Jack and his wife Gwyn are soybean, corn and wheat farmers from Simpsonville and truly believe in their farm’s motto of “If we can’t give it away, we can’t keep it.” JackTrumbo

Jack, who currently serves on the World Soy Foundation (WSF) Board, was first a part of the World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) program’s Committee when they began planning the start of what came to be the Foundation.

“I saw WISHH begin and then grow quickly into what it is today,” Jack said. “It’s our duty to now help the WSF continue to grow and use the power of soy to reduce malnutrition.”

The decision to join and support the Foundation’s mission was an easy one for Jack. He was inspired by Scott Fritz, Roy Bardole and Phil Bradshaw, who he calls “great men of the soy industry,” to become a member. He also had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua and Guatemala to see some of the work WSF was doing for school lunch programs.

Jack witnessed the school children coming each day to excitedly enjoy a bowl of food prepared with soy protein.

“The time I’ve spent with the Foundation—on the Board, as a supporter and traveling—has been the most rewarding of my life,” he said.

It is because of the passion and strong support of people like Jack that the World Soy Foundation had record fundraising totals for the month of January. This support allows the Foundation to continue doing even more great work in the future to reduce malnutrition through the power of soyDonateToday

We’re not finished yet, though! To continue helping the Foundation reduce malnutrition worldwide like Jack does, simply calculate the value of an acre of soybeans in your operation (yield multiplied by price) and give the gift of protein today!
