In the Fall of 2013, the World Soy Foundation (WSF) partnered with the National Soybean Research Laboratory (NSRL), with funding from the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee, to bring educational, soy-focused events to 264 children and their caregivers in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The team partnered with CEPUDO, a non-governmental organization in San Pedro Sula, to put on four health and nutrition fairs focusing on the importance of a balanced diet, nutrition and hygiene—including the benefits of soy protein.

CEPUDO feeds over 3,000 children each week through their partnership with the WSF, and we recently received some exciting updates about their work. CEPUDO now utilizes three soycows that are producing nearly 500 liters of soy milk daily, using about 720 pounds of soybeans each week.  This milk is then donated to public hospitals, several children’s homes, and public schools as part of the school lunch program. For some of these children, this is the only meal they eat all day. The high-protein soy milk they now receive through this program replaces the water that previously accompanied their meals. The additional protein provided by the soy milk can have lasting impacts on the children’s physical and mental well-being, reducing malnutrition through the power of soy!

To join farmers like those from Michigan in reducing malnutrition through the power of soy, simply calculate the value of an acre of soybeans in your operation (yield multiplied by price) and give the gift of protein today!
