The World Soy Foundation Thanks Farmers of the Year: Danny Murphy & Jack Trumbo

Jan 08, 2015

In the past year, the World Soy Foundation (WSF) has had the opportunity to congratulate not one, but two dedicated supporters on winning the Farmer of the Year Award. We are honored to have such great leadership in our industry supporting the WSF’s mission of reducing malnutrition through the power of soy! In addition to being farmer leaders, they are also generous philanthropists.WSFmurphytrumbo

Both farmers, and their families, chose to donate a portion of their award to the WSF. We want to give a special thanks and extend another congratulations to Danny Murphy and Jack Trumbo!

Danny, from Canton, Mississippi, was awarded the Mississippi state winner of the 2014 Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year award. He has been heavily involved in both commodity and community organizations throughout his career—including serving as American Soybean Association President. You can read the full story on Danny’s award here. On winning the award, Danny says:

“I’d like to especially thank Dow/PhytoGen CottonSeed for supporting the Sunbelt Farmer of the Year program. For winning, PhytoGen allowed me to donate to a charity of my choice—which allowed me to choose the World Soy Foundation. I praise the World Soy Foundation for the work that they do. I have been fortunate to have help and support throughout my farming career, and a donation to the World Soy Foundation allows me to help and support hungry people around the world.”

Jack, from Simpsonville, Kentucky, is currently a WSF Board Trustee and was awarded the Kentucky Farm Bureau “Farmer of the Year” award. In addition to the statewide recognition and prizes, Jack will represent Kentucky in the Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Ag Expo Southeastern “Farmer of the Year” contest, the “South’s most prestigious agricultural award”, in October 2015 to compete against nine other state winners for the chance to win a $15,000 award from Swisher International and several other sponsor-based prizes.
