World Soy Foundation’s Weekly Spotlight Feature of June

Jun 05, 2014

For the month of June, each week we’ll shine the “spotlight” on a partner organization or project. Be sure to check us out on Facebook to see the daily posts (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and great photos.

To kick things off, our first “spotlight” is Futuro Vivo of Guatemala City. Futuro Vivo provides soy to the children of their school, as well as marketing to the community. They serve over 250 kids as part of their nutrition program. The parents at Futuro Vivo are invested in the school’s meal program—many are even trained to assist in preparing soy-based meals like empanadas made with okara, which soy dairies yield as a byproduct from soy milk.

In partnership with Rotary Clubs in Guatemala, the WSF is proud to support Futuro Vivo’s efforts to use soy in reducing malnutrition. In the picture below, you can see some of the beneficiaries of the WSF/Futuro Vivo/Rotary Club partnership. The little boy (bottom, left) wanted to make sure we saw that he ate all the soyfoods that were on his plate. WSFJune

The bottom right picture is a woman named Claudia who combines her skills with soy dairies and chocolates sold in Guatemala City to make sweet treats with the okara produced with the Futuro Vivo soy dairy. It’s because of the support of people like you that these kids can learn, grow and be happy, and women like Claudia can have a job in which she can utilize her skills!

Be sure to watch for our Week Two Spotlight next week! To learn more about the WSF, visit us on our website, www.worldsoyfoundation.org,  Facebook, Twitter (@TheWSF) or YouTube!
