Ten years ago the U.S. Senate approved a week each June to be National Pollinator Week.

This year, the USDA and US. Department of the Interior have named June 19-25 as National Pollinator Week, and people from all around the world are taking to social media to bring attention to the importance of pollinators and global ecosystems that rely on bees, butterflies and more.

Growers across the country also understand the importance of pollinators and tirelessly work to improve sustainability and conservation practices, many of which include planting voluntary pollinator habitats around and between fields.

The 2014 Farm Bill allotted $28 billion over five years for conservation on private and tribunal lands through voluntary, incentive-based conservation programs and to date, the Farm Service Agency has enrolled over 124,000 acres in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) pollinator practice.

Additionally, the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) support habitat development for managed and wild pollinators on private land.

Long known as the best stewards of the land, growers across the country are capitalizing on these voluntary farm bill incentives, doing their part to restore pollinator habitats across the country and engaging in dialogues to promote and encourage others to advocate on behalf of the bees, butterflies and all other pollinators.
