USDA Foreign Agricultural Services (FAS) Administrator Phil Karsting hosted a round table discussion on the importance of trade to the state and regional economy at Bunge Headquarters in St. Louis last week.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) worked with FAS and Bunge to arrange the roundtable, where priorities included Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and new, emerging opportunities for agriculture export markets.

Karsting reviewed the importance of TPA, along with TPP and TTIP. Representing soy were ASA Executive Director Bill Schuermann, USSEC CEO Jim Sutter and Missouri Soybean Association Board member Warren Stemme.

Participants also visited Bunge’s Fairmont City, Ill. River Terminal, where they toured the grounds and got a look at the grain elevator and weigh stations.
