World Environment Day

Jun 05, 2017

Today is World Environment Day, a day designated by the United Nations to encourage worldwide awareness and action in protecting the environment.

For growers, that’s just another day on the farm.

A farmer’s goal is simple: grow healthy, affordable food and fuel while leaving the land better than they found it.

To do this, many farmers plant cover crops and adopt no-till practices, they grow buffer strips and butterfly habitats, they use pesticides and other inputs judiciously and focus on water, soil and air conservation. In short, they are the best stewards of the land as possible, not because of government regulation, but because it’s good practice for the crops, the farm and the environment.

To farmers, today is a day to stress the importance of sustainable farming practices and share with the world the passion it takes to farm and care for the land, and leave it healthy and thriving for the next generation.

Farmers farm for the future, on World Environment Day and every day.
