October brings pumpkin spice lattes, the turning of the leaves, harvest, the baseball playoffs and most importantly—the opening of the ASA Soybean Leadership College registration. The Soybean Leadership College has prepared soybean organization leaders for more than 14 years. American agriculture is constantly changing, constantly under scrutiny and the Soybean Leadership College educates soybean organization leaders from across the United States to promote the industry and effectively communication key messages to expand the U.S. soybean opportunities. The Soybean Leadership College focuses on four key leadership development areas: Emerging trends and issues in the agricultural industry, organizational leadership, communication skills and industry issues impacting the soybean industry.
2015 Soybean College Featured Keynote Speakers
Kicking off the meeting is Jack Bobo, U.S. Department of State, Senior Advisor for Biotechnology in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs. Bobo will speak on “Can Agriculture Save the Planet before it Destroys It?” Bobo will examine the global trends in food and agriculture and the role of effective communication in ensuring the voice of farmers and students contribute to the food policy, technology and innovation dialogue.
Matt Roberts, Ph.D. is the keynote speaker for the Wednesday morning general session. Dr. Roberts’ will address the current supply and demand situation for grains and oilseeds in the United States and world and what it means for prices and how growers can best take advantage of these trends in their own marketing decisions.
The Soybean Leadership College will also feature training focusing on organizational leadership, communications and industry issues.
The Soybean Leadership College is open to ASA, USB, USSEC, state association and QSSB leaders and staff, soybean producers wanting to assume a leadership position on a state or national level, and college students seeking to further develop their organizational leadership skills.
