Mother Nature seems to have thrown farmers a curve ball when it comes to weather. The spring rains in the South have created planting and harvesting delays, so ASA is postponing the Succession Planning Workshops scheduled for Memphis on June 24 and Paducah on June 26 to Monday, August 4 in Memphis and Wednesday, August 6 in Paducah.

“This rescheduling was made after careful consideration and consultation with grower leaders and the sponsoring state associations,” said Byron Keelin, ASA Member Education Development Manager. “ASA understands some have registered for these meetings, and we will do everything in our power to make sure those who have registered are not inconvenienced further.”

“This is very important information for soybean producers and we want as many as possible to hear these seminars, rescheduling for August is the right thing to do,” said Bob Worth, ASA Membership and Corporate Relations Committee Chair. The August 4 program in Memphis will be changing locations. The new location will be at the Agricenter International, 7777 Walnut Grove Rd, Memphis, TN 38120. The August 6 program in Paducah will still be at the Julian Carroll Convention Center at 414 Park Street, Paducah, KY 42001.

The other locations and dates are still the same:

• July 30, Sioux Falls, S.D, Sioux Falls Convention Center
• Aug 19, Columbus, Ohio, Renaissance Columbus Downtown
• Aug 21, Fort Wayne, Ind., The Landmark Centre
• Dec 4, Moline, Ill, Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center

The workshops are open to all soybean producers and have a registration fee for ASA members of $50 for the first person in a family and $30 for each additional family member. For non ASA members, the registration fee for the first person in a family $90 and a $70 fee charged for each additional person. The workshops will be taught by Kevin Spafford, founder of Legacy by Design, a firm dedicated to succession planning for farm families and agribusiness owners. Over the last 10 years, Kevin spearheaded initiatives to improve the way farmers, ranchers and agribusiness owners engage in the succession planning process.
